Urban Traffic Flow: Signal-Controlled Intersection (2D)

2D signal-controlled intersection driven by the Intelligent Driver Model: cars accelerate, brake and queue for red lights using real car-following physics.

This 2D companion drives the same signal-controlled intersection as the 3D version, but replaces its scripted motion with a genuine car-following model: every vehicle accelerates, brakes and queues using the Intelligent Driver Model, treating red lights as stationary obstacles on the stop line so congestion emerges from physics rather than a fixed animation loop. Adjust traffic density, the posted speed limit, the signal cycle length and the share of autonomous vehicles, then watch the live readout track active cars, average speed, average delay and overall congestion.

2D signal-controlled intersection using the Intelligent Driver Model for car-following, with a red light treated as a stationary phantom leader so queues form and dissipate from real acceleration/braking physics.
