Click any of the four stylised UK landmasses to load that nation's simulated hive-registration, planning-permission and equipment guidance, then scale the apiary up to see when it starts brushing against commercial-scale planning rules.

🔬 What It Demonstrates

Great Britain shares the BeeBase register run by the National Bee Unit, while Northern Ireland keeps its own DAERA apiary register. Planning permission is fully devolved, so each nation applies different thresholds for when a hobby apiary needs a formal application.

🎮 How to Use

Select a region by clicking its landmass or the dropdown, drag the apiary-size slider to see the site reclassify from Hobby to Commercial, and toggle the registration-coverage pulse and boundary-distance ring to see the illustrative biosecurity and neighbour-spacing overlays.

💡 Did You Know?

BeeBase registration is free and voluntary in Great Britain, yet it is the main channel APHA inspectors use to warn keepers within range of a confirmed Asian hornet nest or foulbrood outbreak — an unregistered apiary can simply be missed.
