Direct Air Capture Plant

Direct air capture (DAC) pulls carbon dioxide straight out of the open atmosphere rather than from a concentrated industrial flue stream — a much harder chemistry problem since CO₂ makes up only about 0.042% of ordinary air. This simulation models a solid-sorbent DAC plant with two alternating contactor banks: one bank adsorbs CO₂ from air pushed through it by fans while the other is sealed and heated to release its captured CO₂ for storage, then the roles swap. Adjust fan speed, ambient concentration, regeneration temperature and sorbent capacity to see how each one trades off capture rate against the energy cost per tonne of CO₂ removed.
