Pneumococcal Vaccine Protection — 3D Immune Mechanism
This is a genuine Three.js/WebGL companion to the 2D Pneumococcal Vaccine Protection Simulator. Instead of a flat canvas, host tissue, circulating pneumococcus bacteria, IgG antibodies, helper T-cells, the memory B-cell reservoir and the population outcome grid all occupy real 3D space that you can orbit and zoom.
The underlying model is identical to the 2D original's five-stage progression (Unvaccinated Baseline, Vaccination, Immune Memory Formation, Pathogen Challenge, Outcome) and its exact metrics formulas: peak antibody titer of 920 U/mL (conjugate) or 580 U/mL (polysaccharide) decaying exponentially at 0.6%/month or 2.5%/month, a memory B-cell pool of 1,450 (conjugate) or 180 (polysaccharide) cells decaying at 0.15%/month or 3.5%/month, and invasive pneumococcal disease risk reduction peaking at 89% (conjugate) or 57% (polysaccharide) and decaying at 0.2%/month or 1.4%/month — the same code as computeMetrics(stage, conj, t) in the 2D version.
In the Pathogen Challenge stage, antibodies genuinely chase bacteria covered by the selected vaccine's serotype set in 3D space and neutralize them after three hits, spawning an expanding wireframe burst exactly as bacteria die. In the Outcome stage, a grid of host icons turns green in the same proportion as the computed IPD risk reduction. Switch between Conjugate (PCV) and Polysaccharide (PPSV23) and slide time since vaccination from 0 to 60 months to watch titer, memory pool and protection wane at their real, distinct rates.
