Sedna's Detached Orbit & the Inner Oort Cloud

Beyond Neptune, the Kuiper belt gives way to a scattered disk of comet-like bodies whose closest approach to the Sun still passes near Neptune's orbit, letting the giant planet keep flinging them around. Sedna and 2012 VP113 break that pattern: their perihelia lie tens of AU beyond Neptune's gravitational reach, making them dynamically detached from the rest of the known Solar System. This simulator propagates real Kepler orbits for Neptune, a classical Kuiper belt object, a scattered-disk object, Sedna and 2012 VP113 simultaneously, and lets you dial in your own object's semi-major axis, eccentricity and inclination to see exactly where the coupled/detached boundary sits — with live perihelion, aphelion, period and classification readouts.
