How it works

A region at UTC offset O reaches local midnight when the UTC clock reads M(O) = 24 − O hours past Dec 31 00:00 UTC. That single formula spans a real 26 hours across the true range of civil offsets, from Kiritimati (UTC+14, M=10h) to Baker Island (UTC−12, M=36h).

Unlike the 3D globe, this flat view renders the same physics two ways at once: an equirectangular map with a vertical sweep line at the current wave longitude, and — underneath it — a genuinely separate linear timeline plotting all 34 regions by their own M(O) hour, with a moving "now" cursor.
