A sun-scorched dune sea with a heat-shimmer horizon and a shimmering phantom oasis. Real mirages form when light bends (refracts) through layers of air at different temperatures near hot ground, faking a distant reflective surface. Here that optical effect is faked with two GLSL ShaderMaterial planes whose fragment shaders distort UV coordinates with layered sine waves over time, plus a vertex-displaced "liquid" oasis patch that pulses in and out of visibility.
