How it works

The 2D counterpart to the orbital refabricator's barrel: same batch-heating thermal physics, viewed as a live temperature-vs-time trace instead of a 3D barrel. Each batch heats for a fixed process window, then the heater cuts out for your chosen cooldown time before the next batch starts — carrying over whatever heat didn't dissipate.

Heating:  dT/dt = P/C_th − k·(T − T_amb)
Cooldown: dT/dt = −k·(T − T_amb)          (P = 0)
Next batch starts at whatever T cooldown left behind — NOT at T_amb.

Melt window — the green band (200–280 °C): the barrel must clear 200 °C to melt the plastic, and must stay below 280 °C or the polymer starts to char/decompose instead of extruding cleanly.
Heater power — sets both how fast the barrel heats and its equilibrium temperature if held indefinitely (T_eq = T_amb + P/(C_th·k)).
Cooldown time — if it's long enough for the barrel to relax back near ambient before the next batch, every batch looks the same. If it's too short, residual heat from batch N becomes the starting temperature of batch N+1 — so peak temperature creeps upward batch over batch even though the heater setting never changed, until a later batch overshoots into the char zone.

Try 90 s cooldown (safe, flat peaks) vs. 20 s cooldown (same power — watch the peaks climb and eventually cross into red).
