Chladni Plate Resonance (2D)

Top-down view of a real 18th-century acoustics experiment: a driven plate vibrates at a shifting resonant mode, and sand-like grains bounce off the fast-moving antinodes until they drift onto the motionless "nodal lines," tracing the plate's standing-wave pattern. Colour shows instantaneous surface displacement (red = up, blue = down); the grains always settle where that field crosses zero.
