Why the window matters

Every layer of fresh concrete has to gain enough stiffness before the next pass lands on top of it, or its own weight makes it bulge outward and slump — visible here as the layer swelling and, if it happens repeatedly, toppling. But if the printer waits too long, the surface skin hardens past its "open time": the fresh bead on top can no longer key into it chemically, leaving a cold joint — a plane of weak adhesion that shows up later as cracking or delamination, marked here in amber.

Deposition interval — simulated seconds between the start of one layer's pass and the next.
Bonding window — the green band on the bar below the slider: only intervals landing here cure the layer below just enough to carry the load and still be tacky enough to bond.
Wall integrity — running average bond quality across every printed joint, penalised hard by a structural collapse.

Real 3D concrete printers (e.g. contour-crafting gantries) tune layer time, mix accelerators and nozzle speed together to keep every joint inside exactly this window.
