Colloidal quantum dots only look as bright as the fraction of absorbed excitons that actually decay by emitting a photon — their photoluminescence quantum yield. This simulator renders a live ensemble of quantum dots, each running its own stochastic exponential decay clock between two competing pathways: radiative recombination, which releases a visible photon, and non-radiative decay through surface trap states or phonon-assisted relaxation, which is lost as heat. Adjust surface trap density, temperature and an epitaxial ZnS shell-passivation toggle and watch the measured quantum yield, fluorescence lifetime and photon emission rate respond in real time, exactly as they would for real CdSe/ZnS core–shell quantum dots.
