Quantum Dot Blinking — Fluorescence Intermittency

Single colloidal quantum dots don't fluoresce steadily under continuous illumination — they randomly flicker between a bright, photon-emitting state and a dark state where an ejected charge carrier quenches emission via Auger recombination. This simulation renders that blinking nanocrystal in 3D, sampling ON- and OFF-state durations from a truncated power-law distribution — the same statistical signature (no characteristic timescale, occasional very long dark excursions) measured in real single quantum-dot spectroscopy experiments. Tune the ON/OFF power-law exponents and the long-time cutoff, and watch the live intensity trace and running statistics build up in real time.
