Cavity QED Strong Coupling — Vacuum Rabi Splitting

A single atom inside a cavity that strongly confines one field mode can exchange a single quantum of energy with the cavity photon many times before either decays. This simulator lets you tune the coupling strength g against the cavity's photon-loss rate κ and the atom's decay rate γ, and watch the probed transmission spectrum transition from one resonance peak (weak coupling, g below κ and γ) into a clearly split vacuum Rabi doublet (strong coupling, g above κ and γ) — alongside a 3D view of the atom-cavity system showing coherent energy exchange versus rapid irreversible decay.
