Orbit path
Moon & near-side marker
Marker locked on planet
This 2D companion integrates the same tidal-locking mechanics as the 3D version — a genuine Keplerian orbit plus an exponentially-relaxing spin rate — on a plain top-down canvas built for reading the physics directly: a side panel exposes the orbit's semi-major axis and eccentricity, the starting spin multiple of the orbital rate, and the tidal-dissipation strength, while a live readout tracks spin rate, orbital rate, synchronization percentage and the physical libration in longitude that persists even once the moon is fully locked.
