NV-Center Diamond Quantum Thermometer (2D)

A single nitrogen-vacancy defect in diamond carries a spin-1 electronic ground state whose zero-field splitting D shifts predictably with temperature. Sweeping a microwave field across the spin transition and reading out the diamond's fluorescence — optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR) — produces a dip whose center tracks D(T). This 2D adaptation lays the whole mechanism out across four linked panels: a pannable lattice schematic, a live spin energy-level diagram showing the Zeeman-split sublevels, the ODMR spectrum itself, and a running precision tracker that shows temperature-estimate error shrinking as you average more sweeps — the same 1/√N shot-noise scaling real NV-diamond thermometers rely on for sub-degree nanoscale thermal imaging.
