DNA Proton Tunneling (2D)

This is the 2D counterpart to the DNA Proton Tunneling 3D simulator: rather than integrating the full time-dependent Schrödinger equation, it computes the real WKB (Wentzel–Kramers–Brillouin) tunneling transmission probability for a hydrogen-bond proton crossing the double-well potential of a DNA base pair, using actual physical constants and a numerical Simpson's-rule integral evaluated live in your browser. Adjust the barrier height and width — standing in for different base pairs and hydrogen-bond geometries — and watch the computed transmission probability drive a stochastic two-state model of the tautomeric shift, the same Löwdin mechanism proposed as a quantum-mechanical route to spontaneous point mutations.
