Order parameter phi(t). Dashed: disordered floor sqrt(pi)/(2 sqrt N). Dotted: one-step mean-field value sin(eta/2)/(eta/2).
Distribution P(phi) since the last parameter change. A double peak near the transition hints at a first-order jump.
Experiments
A. Critical noise by finite-size scaling. Sweeps eta for three system sizes at the current density, speed, radius and noise type, and measures the order parameter phi, the susceptibility chi = N(<phi^2> - <phi>^2) and the Binder cumulant U = 1 - <phi^4>/(3<phi^2>^2). The Binder curves of different sizes cross at the critical noise; chi peaks there and grows with size.
