Alleged "anomalous radiation" readings near UFO sighting sites are almost always ordinary statistical fluctuation of natural background radiation, misread by an untrained observer as an anomaly. This simulator runs a real Geiger-counter-style Poisson process: a detector with a fixed, unchanging true background rate reports how many decay events it counts in each measurement window. Because radioactive decay is a Poisson process, the count in any single window fluctuates with standard deviation σ = √λ around the true mean λ — so a reading 2-3x the average happens routinely by chance alone, not because the source changed. Adjust the background rate, counting window and anomaly threshold to see how a longer count time narrows the statistical uncertainty and correctly separates a real anomaly from ordinary noise.
