Real lava's viscosity depends heavily on composition: basaltic lava is relatively fluid (low silica content, low viscosity), letting it spread into fast-moving sheet flows, while felsic (rhyolitic) lava is silica-rich, highly viscous, and often barely creeps or piles into steep domes. Fresh lava emerges at roughly 700-1200°C, with basaltic flows toward the hotter end and felsic flows cooler and thicker. The channel here is a stylized basaltic-style flow: fast, glowing, and confined to a carved valley as it moves downhill under gravity. Its shifting color band from dark red through orange to pale yellow approximates blackbody-like thermal emission, where hotter regions glow brighter and shift toward yellow/white while cooling crust at the edges darkens toward black.
