Moiré Effect
From the French word for fabric weave ("moire").
This is an interference pattern. When two grids are nearly (but not exactly) aligned, a third "phantom" wave appears.
Where do we see this?
- Television screen recording on a camera.
- Color photo printing (rosette patterns).
- Security on banknotes (microtext).
- Aliasing in computer graphics.
