Building sway — TMD engaged
Building sway — no TMD (ghost)
This 2D companion models a skyscraper's top floor as a driven, damped mass-spring oscillator shaken by periodic wind or earthquake-like forcing, then attaches a secondary tuned mass — a spring-and-damper system dialed near the building's own natural frequency, the same principle behind the 660-tonne pendulum atop Taipei 101 — that dissipates vibrational energy and cuts the sway. A tuning-mismatch slider detunes the secondary mass's frequency away from the building's, showing how quickly the cancellation weakens as the ratio drifts from 1.0, while a toggle locks the TMD out entirely so a live amplitude-vs-time chart can compare the damped and undamped sway side by side.
