2D Torque Balance Simulator

This 2D companion to the 3D torque balance simulator strips the mechanism down to a pivoted beam and three weights you can drag directly along it (or dial in with the mass and position sliders). Each weight contributes a torque τ = F × d about the fulcrum — force from its weight (F = mg) times its distance from the pivot — and the beam's rotation is driven by the net of all three, clockwise torques against counter-clockwise ones. Watch the live per-weight and net torque readouts as you rearrange the load: the beam accelerates toward whichever side has more torque, decelerates as the tilt shortens each weight's effective lever arm (d·cosθ), and settles into equilibrium the moment the two sides cancel — or rests against its end stop if no arrangement of the current masses can balance.
