This 2D simulator visualizes a snow avalanche as a weak-layer failure problem: a cross-section of the snowpack sits on a slope whose angle you control, with a buried weak layer whose bonding strength you can weaken or reinforce. The live gauge tracks the shear-stress-to-shear-strength ratio in real time — driven by slope angle and snowpack depth on the stress side, and by weak-layer stability on the strength side — so a slope can release naturally once the ratio passes 1, or hold until a deliberate trigger tips it over. Once released, the slab accelerates downslope, entrains snow to grow heavier and faster, then slows and stops as the terrain flattens into the runout zone.
