How it works

This is a flat, top-down view of the same self-playing melody as the 3D piano note visualizer: a fixed sequence of notes triggers each key in turn while a glowing bar rises off it, rather than responding to anything you press.

Every key follows the 12-tone equal-tempered scale used on a real piano: each semitone's frequency is the last multiplied by the 12th root of two, so every octave exactly doubles in frequency (A4 = 440 Hz by international standard). A full 88-key piano spans roughly 27.5 Hz (A0) to 4186 Hz (C8).

The rising note bars are a simple piano-roll idea in reverse: instead of scrolling toward a fixed line the way sheet-music software draws a song, each bar launches upward from the key the instant it sounds and fades as it climbs, so the height and brightness of the bars trace the melody's rhythm and pitch contour over time.
