Gecko Adhesion Cross-Section (2D)

This 2D simulator slices through a gecko toe pad pressed against glass to show exactly how gecko adhesion works: not suction, not glue, but the van der Waals force acting across millions of microscopic setae and their branching spatula tips. Drag the contact-area slider to press the pad down and watch the setae bend from splayed to flattened as their spatulae fall into the sub-nanometre range where van der Waals attraction turns on, then raise the seta-count slider to see how adhesion force scales with the sheer number of hairs recruited. Live readouts compute the actual van der Waals pressure from the Hamaker constant and the current molecular separation, then multiply by the engaged contact area to show the total adhesion force in newtons — the same physics behind gecko-inspired dry adhesives.
