Gemstone Optics Lab Blender 5.2

Twelve gemstones, five cuts. Light is traced through the stone facet by facet: Snell refraction with a different index for every wavelength, total internal reflection, Fresnel losses and Beer-Lambert colour. Drag to orbit, wheel or pinch to zoom, tap the stone to trace a ray.

Experiment: best pavilion angle

Question: which pavilion angle returns the most light for this stone, and does it match the critical-angle prediction?

Ray probe (tap the stone)

Tap or click the stone: the eye ray is traced backwards through the facets for three wavelengths (red, green, blue). Every interaction is listed with its angle of incidence against the critical angle.
