How it works

The mind emerges from signals propagating through a physically wired network of specialised, cooperating brain regions — here laid out on a flat ring so the whole connectome is visible at once.

activity spreads along connectome edges
BOLD-like signal ~ integrated firing
  • Brain regions — major functional regions modelled as network nodes (visual cortex, PFC, hippocampus...).
  • Connectome density — how richly interconnected regions are, based on real white-matter tract density.
  • Stimulus input rate — how often a sensory/cognitive stimulus is injected into the network.
  • Excitability threshold — activation level a region needs before it fires and passes the signal on.

This is the same node-and-edge connectome model fMRI researchers build — the 3D version orbits it in space, this one reads it flat so every edge and firing node stays visible without rotating the view.
