This top-down 2D simulator grows a fungal mycelium the way real hyphae do: each growing tip extends from a handful of germinating spores, sensing nearby nutrient patches and bending its path up the concentration gradient (chemotropism) rather than growing in a straight line. Tips branch more often when food is scarce, feed on and deplete the nutrient patches they reach, and fuse together wherever two threads from the same colony cross — anastomosis — turning a set of separate foraging tips into one connected transport network. Adjust nutrient density, branching rate and growth speed to see how a colony's exploration strategy changes between a food-rich patch and barren soil, and watch the live network length, node count and nutrient tally update as the mycelium spreads.
