Roll-to-Roll Nanofilm Coating Line

Nanomanufacturing scale-up rarely fails in the lab — it fails on the production line, where a process that works perfectly at bench scale has to run continuously, fast, and within tight statistical control. This simulator models one of the most common industrial nanomanufacturing routes: roll-to-roll (R2R) coating of a conductive nanomaterial film. A web of substrate unwinds, passes under a coater that meters a wet film, cures in an oven whose dwell time depends only on line speed and oven length, and is measured inline for sheet resistance. Push the web speed up and dwell time drops; compensate with cure temperature or accept more defects. Watch the SPC chart to see the difference between a process that has drifted out of statistical control and one that is actually shipping out-of-spec product.
