Magnetic Nanoparticle Water Remediation

Functionalized magnetic nanoparticles are one of the few nanotech-for-ecology techniques that actually leaves the environment — this simulator models the full cycle: Fe₃O₄ nanoparticles diffuse through a contaminated water column, bind heavy-metal ions on contact under pseudo-second-order adsorption kinetics until each particle saturates, and once an external magnetic field is switched on they drift toward a collector plate and are physically harvested, taking their bound contaminant load out of the water. Live readouts separate ions that are merely captured (still in the water, riding on a free-floating particle) from ions that are actually removed (harvested at the magnet), the distinction that determines whether a remediation batch actually cleaned the water or just relocated the pollutant.
