LaMer Nucleation & Size-Focusing — Colloidal Nanocrystal Synthesis

Colloidal nanocrystal batches (quantum dots, metal and oxide nanoparticles) are made by pushing a dissolved monomer past a nucleation threshold, letting a short burst of nuclei form, and then growing them under diffusion-limited kinetics that can either narrow the size distribution (size-focusing) or broaden it again (Ostwald ripening), depending on how far the monomer concentration sits above equilibrium. This simulator renders a live population of 3D nanocrystals evolving under a simplified LaMer/Gibbs–Thomson model: drive precursor feed rate, reaction temperature and ligand (surfactant) concentration, or trigger a hot-injection burst, and watch the monomer concentration, mean radius, particle count and size dispersion (CV%) respond in real time as the batch moves through induction, burst nucleation, focusing growth and ripening.
