Nanowire Optical Waveguide: Mode Confinement (2D)

This 2D companion to the 3D nanowire waveguide simulator computes the identical step-index cylindrical waveguide physics — the same V-number, the same LP01/LP11/LP21/LP02 Bessel-zero mode cutoffs, the same interpolated transverse wavenumber solve — but shows it as a genuine pannable, zoomable 2D cross-section field-intensity map instead of a 3D scene. Drag to explore the confined core versus the evanescent tail leaking into the surrounding air, watch the animated strip carry the guided power along the wire, and track the live V-number ruler as it crosses each mode's cutoff. Adjust wire radius, light wavelength, core semiconductor and which guided mode to visualize to see exactly how tightly a real nanowire holds its light.
