Toggle Switch: Noise-Induced Bit Flips

A synthetic-biology genetic toggle switch is bistable: two mutually-repressing genes settle into one of two stable expression states. This simulator renders that bistability as a literal 3D double-well landscape and drops a population of cells onto it as marbles that undergo real Langevin (drift + noise) dynamics. Instead of an external inducer forcing the switch, here the flips are spontaneous — driven purely by intrinsic gene-expression noise — and the panel tracks how often they happen against a live Kramers escape-rate prediction, showing directly how promoter strength and molecular noise trade off to make a genetic memory element robust or leaky.
