Directed Evolution Lab

Directed evolution improves a protein by repeating a simple loop: build a library of mutants, screen them for the property you want, keep the winners, mutate again. This simulator renders that loop over an explicit fitness landscape — protein variants are points on a rugged 3D surface, library generation scatters new mutants around the current survivors, and selection stringency decides how many advance to the next round. Tune library size, mutation rate and selection stringency to see the classic directed-evolution trade-offs play out: too little diversity and the population gets trapped on a local optimum; too much drift and it never converges at all.
