Protocell Division: 2D Vesicle Growth & Excess-Area Fission

A minimal synthetic cell — a lipid vesicle enclosing a cell-free expression system — doesn't need genes to divide. This 2D companion to the 3D protocell simulator grows each protocell's membrane area and encapsulated content under a shared, depleting nutrient pool, tracks the excess-area ratio ν between real membrane area and the smallest area a sphere of that volume could have, and splits the vesicle into two daughters the instant ν crosses a fission threshold. The population renders as a real 2D packed-circle scene you can pan and zoom, with a live strip chart tracking population, nutrient level and mean ν over time.
