Addiction Recovery: Relapse-Risk Landscape

This simulation models the recovery process — detoxification, therapy and relapse-prevention — as motion on a stochastic bistable potential: a "recovery landscape" with two stable states, Recovery and Relapse, separated by an energy barrier. A ball representing the patient's current state drifts and jitters across this landscape under simulated craving noise, while three real controls (craving/trigger intensity, coping-skill strength and social support) reshape the landscape's barrier height and tilt in real time. Live readouts track days in recovery, an estimated relapse risk from the Kramers escape-rate formula, and a running count of relapse events, giving a concrete, mechanistic feel for why coping skills and social support make relapse statistically less likely even though it can never be ruled out.
