Connectome Scanning: Digitizing a Brain

Before a brain can be "uploaded" in any technical sense, it first has to be scanned — sliced or imaged at a resolution fine enough to capture every neuron and synapse, then reassembled into a connectivity graph. This simulator renders that acquisition process directly: a scan plane sweeps through a synthetic 3D neuron network, progressively lighting up neurons and the synaptic edges between already-scanned pairs. The resolution slider drives a real cubic scaling law for data volume — modeled on the published data rate of actual electron-microscopy connectomics projects — so you can see exactly why finer resolution buys reconstruction fidelity at a steeply rising storage cost, right up to the zettabyte-scale estimate for a full human brain at synapse-level resolution.
