Augmented Reality (AR) Healthcare Simulation

This simulation investigates the potential of augmented reality in healthcare settings by modelling a concrete, everyday AR device: an optical see-through NIR vein finder used for IV placement and blood draws. A 3D forearm carries real subcutaneous veins rendered from Beer–Lambert light attenuation, while a second, green "AR overlay" line shows what the headset actually paints for the clinician — offset by the parallax registration error that any camera-to-eye baseline introduces. Sweeping vein depth, NIR wavelength, headset baseline and viewing distance demonstrates, quantitatively, why AR-guided training and diagnostics tools trade off signal strength against geometric accuracy, and why closing that gap is central to using AR safely for patient care.
