This 2D companion simulator draws a live Davenport diagram — plasma HCO3- on the vertical axis, pH on the horizontal axis, with diagonal iso-pCO2 lines — and drives it from two real physiological controls: pCO2 (the respiratory component, set by the lungs) and plasma HCO3- (the metabolic component, set by the kidneys). The Henderson-Hasselbalch equation converts both into a live blood pH, which is classified as normal, respiratory acidosis, respiratory alkalosis, metabolic acidosis or metabolic alkalosis as you move the sliders. Toggle physiological compensation on or off to see how the kidneys or lungs partially correct a primary disorder by adjusting the other variable, pulling the point back toward the normal zone on the diagram.
