How it works

Each of the 130 simulated employees carries a cumulative occupational risk index R (0–100) that updates once per simulated day:

R(t+1) = clamp( R(t) + s·H₀·D·T − b·k_b ,  0, 100 )
D = 1 − 0.45  (if on a standing desk)
T = 1 − 0.35  (if ergonomically trained)
H₀ = 1.6 pts/day   k_b = 0.55 pts/break

where s is a fixed per-employee susceptibility (0.6–1.4×, individual variation), D and T are hazard-reduction factors switched on by the desk-adoption and training-coverage sliders (each employee is assigned to the intervention with probability equal to the slider value), and b is the movement-breaks-per-day slider subtracting recovered load. Reaching R = 100 triggers a sick/injury incident: the employee goes on leave for 5–14 days, the incident counter increments, and their risk resets to 20 on return.

Movement breaks / day — a flat daily recovery applied to every active employee, the single strongest lever against a fixed hazard.
Ergonomic training coverage — cuts hazard accrual for trained employees (posture, lifting technique, workstation setup).
Grey figures are on leave and recovering in the side bay; they rejoin the floor once their leave duration elapses.

This mirrors how real workplace-wellness programs are evaluated: no single lever eliminates occupational risk, but combined interventions (ergonomic equipment + scheduled movement + training) can drive the incident rate toward zero, which is exactly what the preventive medicine literature behind this simulator's title targets.
