Neuroadaptive Automation: EEG Engagement-Index Control Loop

Neuroadaptive interfaces don't just read a static brain signal — they close the loop, shifting task control between human and machine as an operator's cognitive state drifts between boredom and overload. This simulator synthesizes theta, alpha and beta band power from a controllable task-difficulty input, computes the classic engagement index EI = β/(α+θ), and feeds a smoothed, hysteresis-controlled decision loop that raises or lowers the automation level in real time. A scrolling 3D EEG spectrogram shows the three bands live, a reactive cortex mesh pulses with engagement, and a marker rides an inverted-U performance curve so you can watch predicted operator performance rise and fall as the controller hands control back and forth.
