Targeted Nanoparticle Drug Delivery: Receptor Binding Under Blood Flow

This simulation explores the potential of using nanotechnology for targeted drug delivery within the human body, modelled at the level that actually decides whether a nanoparticle reaches a diseased cell: antibody-conjugated nanoparticles flow through a vessel and either form a receptor bond and stick, or get swept past. Binding is governed by the Bell adhesion model — a stochastic competition between ligand-receptor bond formation and the hydrodynamic shear force trying to tear each bond apart — the same framework used to design real targeted nanomedicines. Tune flow shear, antibody and receptor density, bond affinity and particle size, and watch the bound fraction, capture rate and per-bond shear force respond live.
