Digital Radiography: Dose, Noise & Contrast Windowing

A digital X-ray image is built from a finite, random stream of photons — this simulator renders a 3D X-ray tube firing a divergent beam through a phantom onto a flat-panel detector, where the live detector image is generated pixel-by-pixel from real Poisson photon statistics. Raise the tube current-time (mAs) and watch quantum-mottle noise shrink as photon count rises; raise the tube voltage (kVp) and watch subject contrast fade as the beam penetrates more uniformly. A window/level control lets you reprocess the same raw exposure for a completely different look, and live readouts track photon flux, subject contrast, contrast-to-noise ratio and relative patient dose so you can see exactly how each technique factor trades against the others — the same balancing act a radiographer performs on every real exposure.
