How it works

The "golden hour" is the window after severe trauma in which fast, effective care has the greatest impact on survival. Here the patient's vital score drains at a rate driven by bleeding severity, slowed by how well a bystander applies direct pressure, and slowed drastically once the ambulance crew takes over.

Bleeding severity — how serious the wound is; higher values drain the vital score faster.
First-aid quality — how well a bystander applies direct pressure before help arrives; near 100% cuts the drain rate almost tenfold.
Ambulance ETA — minutes until professional care arrives; every minute saved is a minute less of unmanaged blood loss.
Vital score — a 0–100 proxy for blood pressure and consciousness; the blood pool and patient colour both track it live.

Real-world relevance: this is exactly why emergency dispatch always asks for immediate pressure on a wound before the ambulance arrives — the bystander's first minutes of care can matter as much as the ride to the hospital.
