Skin Barrier & Itch-Scratch Cycle Simulator

This simulation models the diagnosis and treatment logic behind atopic dermatitis (eczema): a 3D cross-section of skin shows the stratum corneum's "brick and mortar" structure, with corneocyte bricks that visibly crack apart as barrier integrity falls. Filaggrin function and ambient humidity set the underlying risk; transepidermal water loss (TEWL) is computed live from a Fick's-law-style diffusion model and rendered as rising water-vapor particles. Emollient and topical corticosteroid sliders show how the two mainstay treatments intervene at different points in the itch-scratch feedback loop, and a "Scratch now" trigger — or the automatic scratch response once itch crosses threshold — demonstrates how mechanical damage reinforces the cycle.
