Nephron Loss and Compensatory Hyperfiltration — 2D Lattice Model

Chronic kidney disease is not simply nephrons dying off one at a time at a constant rate — it is a feedback loop. As a population of nephrons shrinks, the survivors raise their own filtration rate to compensate, and that very compensation places them under a glomerular capillary hypertension that hastens their own sclerosis, forcing the remaining nephrons to hyperfilter even harder. This 2D version renders the nephron population as a live cellular lattice — a cross-sectional mosaic of individual filtration units — next to a scrolling strip chart of GFR, single-nephron filtration ratio and hazard rate, driven by the exact same Brenner hyperfiltration mathematics as the 3D model. Adjust the underlying insult, the hyperfiltration-injury sensitivity, and simulated RAAS-blockade therapy, then watch the lattice thin out and the trajectory bend.
