Stent Wake Vortex & Wall Shear Recovery (2D Flow Field)

A coronary stent strut that protrudes into the lumen acts as a small backward-facing step for the passing blood: the boundary layer separates at the strut and a recirculating vortex forms in its wake before the flow reattaches to the wall further downstream. This 2D simulator solves that vortex directly as a closed-form, mass-conserving velocity field in a longitudinal slice of the vessel — rather than reusing a fitted curve — and reads the wall shear stress straight off the real velocity gradient at the wall. Adjust strut protrusion height, ring spacing, mean blood velocity and viscosity to watch the vortex depth and length respond, the wall-shear color strip redraw, and the readouts track the baseline shear, the minimum (reversed) shear inside the wake, and the fraction of wall length sitting below the clinically atherogenic 1.5 Pa threshold that drives in-stent restenosis.
