Thermal Spray Splat Formation

Thermal-spray coatings are built one molten droplet impact at a time. This simulator drops a single feedstock droplet onto a substrate at a chosen velocity, diameter, preheat temperature and material, then computes the Reynolds and Weber numbers of the impact and applies the Pasandideh-Fard energy-balance correlation to find the flattening ratio. Mundo's splashing parameter K decides whether the droplet spreads into a clean, well-bonded disk or fragments into ejected satellite splashes — exactly the choice thermal-spray engineers are trying to control when they tune particle velocity and substrate preheat to get dense coatings instead of porous, splash-riddled ones.
