Graphene Nanoribbon Edge States

Cutting a sheet of graphene into a narrow ribbon does more than shrink it — the shape of the cut edge changes the electronic structure. This simulator constructs a finite honeycomb lattice with a real, adjustable nearest-neighbor tight-binding Hamiltonian, diagonalizes it exactly in the browser, and renders every eigenstate as a 3D probability-amplitude landscape over the carbon lattice. Switch between zigzag and armchair edge termination to see the textbook result: zigzag-terminated ribbons develop electron states that localize on the boundary rows near zero energy, while armchair-terminated ribbons of the same size do not.
