Raw cappings wax straight off the hive is dark, soft and full of propolis, pollen and bee debris. Turning it into a saleable candle takes three stages, laid out left to right here: a double-boiler melting pot, a cloth filter that strains out solids, and a mould where clarified wax sets around a centred wick.
Beeswax has almost no shelf-life limit once it's clean and dry — well-filtered blocks stored away from heat and light can be remelted and poured years later with no loss of quality, which is why many beekeepers stockpile rendered wax between candle runs.

Heat lowers wax viscosity and speeds flow; repeated filtering strains out propolis and pollen debris; and decolorizing lightens the finished wax from dark amber-brown toward pale gold before it is poured around a sized wick.
Raise the melt temperature to see the flame and convection respond, add filter passes to clean up the falling stream, dial in decolorizing, pick a wick gauge, and toggle the mould cutaway to check centring as each pour cycle fills and resets.
Properly rendered and filtered beeswax is essentially shelf-stable forever — stored blocks can be remelted and poured into candles years later with no loss of quality.
